Landscape architect in Wavre

In Wavre (1300), the capital of Walloon Brabant, the Dyle runs through the city and the Maca watches over the centre. Between the lively heart, hills and residential areas, the gardens take on very different forms. Vert Val SRL — a landscape architecture office founded by Lorenzo del Marmol, based in La Hulpe in Walloon Brabant — designs and carries out the layout of private gardens in Wavre, from the first sketch to the last planting.

Points of interest: the gardens of Waterloo

Uccle is rarely the small city garden. Here, we often work with space, ancient trees, and relief. Here is what we encounter most — and our way of responding to it.

The Dyle valley — In the valley bottom, wet soils and a nearby water table. We plan drainage and rainwater management, and choose plants that enjoy coolness.

From the centre to the hills — Between the dense city centre and elevated neighbourhoods, the scale and exposure change. We adapt the garden to its slope and light.

Remarkable trees — Wavre maintains an official list of remarkable trees. Before any felling or significant pruning, we check the status and any necessary permits.

Sloping land — Wavre embraces the slopes of the Dyle. On sloped land, we work on levels, terraces and earth retention before designing.

To discover in Wavre

The banks of the Dyle and the Hostau park

The Dyle winds through Wavre; by following it, one reaches the Hostau park, a green stop in the heart of the city. The river as a guiding thread of the urban landscape.

The Beumont Woods

To the north of the city, a walking wood where old bunkers from the KW line (1940) have blended into the landscape. Proof that vegetation always eventually reclaims its rights.

Basse-Wavre and its path along the Dyle

The old district of Basse-Wavre, its pilgrimage basilica and a discreet path by the water. The kind of quiet spot you wouldn't suspect.

 Wavre of tomorrow

Creative reflection on greening our spaces. The city of today is not the city of tomorrow. With warming, greenery in the city is no longer a luxury: it cools, absorbs rainwater, and creates connections. We took some very mineral places in Waterloo and imagined them greener. A projection, not a project — but a real question: what if we dared?

Frequently asked questions

Do you operate everywhere in Wavre?

Yes. Vert Val SRL carries out private garden projects throughout the municipality of Wavre (1300), from the city centre to the districts of Bierges and Limal, as well as throughout Walloon Brabant and Brussels.

What is the difference between a landscaper and a landscape architect?

A landscape architect designs the entire project — plans, choice of plants, materials, coordination of works — whereas a landscaper or garden contractor mainly carries out the planting and maintenance. At Vert Val SRL, Lorenzo del Marmol ensures the complete design, from the sketch to delivery.

My land is sloped: is this a problem for landscaping a garden?

Not at all, it's often an asset. In Wavre, many plots follow the slopes of the Dyle. We transform the slope into a play of levels and terraces, taking care of soil retention and water drainage. A well-thought-out sloped garden has more character than a flat plot.
